[zeromq-dev] when I connect a socket, is there something that goes on the wire ?

Hi list,

When I connect a socket (zsocket_connect), is there something that goes 
on the wire before any send/receive command (zmsg_recv, zmsg_send) is 
issued ?

In other words, is there a cost for a server to have hundreds or 
thousands of clients that connect to it when communications occur ?
