[zeromq-dev] wedging bug

the cleverness addresses how to do a graceful termination when the notice
to do so comes in while a thread is blocked in a zmq_recv call. (and no,
i can't afford to do a recv with NOBLOCK.)

but i need to go off and coach a soccer team now. more later.
