There's no separate repo for 3-1 yet. Pieter is going to create it 
shortly as far as I am aware.

As for the master, the system of merging experimental work into a single 
repo have proved extremely painful in the past (recall 0MQ/4.0). I would 
strongly recommend keeping experimental work on topic branches.
