[zeromq-dev] Keeping processes up and running

In my opinion salt is a really nice for managing and interacting with even
just one machine.  A salt master can also be a minion, so you can certainly
use salt to control even a single box.  If you start out this way, then
once you grow to more than one box you don't have to really change
anything, which is nice.
