Nice start!

Let's in any case develop on libzmq and backport to 3-x when we're
happy with the results.

I think the goal here has to be automatic compatibility, thus (a)
addition of a version number to the protocol as should have been done
from day 1, and (b) detection of ZMTP/1.0 peers so we can fall back to
e.g. not sending subscriptions. I've revived the ZMTP/1.1 raw proposal
at http://rfc.zeromq.org/spec:15.
