Sorry to touch these sensitive things, but just wanted to comment that still you will need someone to be an architect and to know the deepest ZMQ implementation details.
The most valuable help for my commits was from Martin off the list.

I found some issues with ZMQ and still don't know whom to ask/talk about it.

:-) I'd forgotten about that bet.

I enjoy being in this community and enjoy the "we'll check your commit
but without prejudice" process.

It's also been good to properly document our process
(http://rfc.zeromq.org/spec:16*) and start to use this elsewhere. I've
introduced a very process (http://unprotocols.org/blog:23) for a large
closed-source project we're working on, and it's become a life-saver.
