Yes, because it's a shortcut to pre-built device models, in other
words lets you abstract the choice of sockets.

But it's pretty moot; defining the socket types explicitly is just the same.

In ZDCF and the generic device we implemented socket options afair.

If anyone actually wants this, I'll make it all work again.
