I think Min has a point. Have a look at 4.0. The new version of ROUTER 
socket notifies you about connections and disconnections. AFAIU it's 
exactly what you need. Please do try it and comment on it -- it's a new 
experimental feature and needs a lot of feedback to make  it work OK for 
everyone.
