I'd not aim for backwards compatibility in the software, but the v2
protocol should have a version header that is identifiably distinct
from the current first frame sent on a connection.
For websockets, being 100% compatible with the framing would make it
easier to eventually get the 0MQ wire protocol accepted by the IETF
and would perhaps make it easier to e.g. bridge 0MQ over HTTP using
websockets.
