Run 'make dist' on a new enough machine and use the resulting tarball.
Problem solved.

To be honest, autoconf 2.59 was released in *2003*. So I'm not inclined to
support that; I don't even have a distribution here that uses it, *and*
(I repeat myself) normal users should be using release tarballs/tarballs
made from "make dist".
FWIW autoconf 2.61 was released in 2006 so it's not new by any definition.
