Steven,

.ch stands for Switzerland and has nothing to do with Ch.

CERN  ( http://public.web.cern.ch/public/ ) is the "European 
Organization for Nuclear Research"

ROOT is a huge software system for the researchers at CERN. This package 
is based on the open source C/C++ interpreter CINT.

It's different to Ch ...
