Thanks for suggestions!

Let do it this way:

1. I'll implement the functionality.
2. During the implementation I may find a good reason to prefer one way 
of modifying C API to another. If so, we'll discuss it then.
3. With C API in place it would be easier to reason about providing the 
functionality in different languages.
