You're probably right. The perf tests are in need of some love. As I
suggested, this would be a good point for someone from the community to
jump in and turn what we have now into a proper performance suite.

Maybe, but I'm kind of trying to avoid a proliferation of too many small
packages for each extra bit... so putting them in -dev in the same manner
as the examples seemed like a good compromise.
