Martin,
With a stable API, I think this separation is okay. For Common Lisp it
would be a benefit, because this means that the ZMQ stuff can be made
ASDF installable. For the Debian CL package it doesn't change much, it
only needs to depend on the right version of the C API package. In
fact, the only thing it really needs from such a package is the .so
file.
