Erik, thanks for mentioning this! 0.0.0.0 is INADDR_ANY that binds to 
all interfaces including the loopback interface. Actually, there's a 
shortcut in 0MQ. You can use "*" instead of 0.0.0.0. Thus:

./local_lat tcp://*:5555 1 10000
