Hi Matt,

I've been working on a design for exactly this for a few months.  It
got derailed by work on the user guide.  The idea is to create an open
source "data plant" that runs over 0MQ for pure MD distribution.
Eventually, to plus this into open source feed handlers to get an open
source ticker plant, which would be fairly revolutionary.

I'll send you what I have so far but the text is still too rough for
wider distribution.  It's great that you're thinking of this too.
