I just pushed a change where I define this kind of variables in
Makefile.am and then most of the rules get defined in terms of them. I
think it is much more readable and maintainable; can you test if it
works?

The change also turns the constructors for Context, Socket and Poller
into protected members. I believe this is the last minor, cosmetic
change that I will apply to the Java binding. Future changes should be
along the idea of changing the Poller interface, etc.
