Hello Pieter,

Actually there are still some asserts in mentioned api calls.
For 1.0.1, -1 is returned only in cases when object can not be found or 
registered within zmq_server (connection to zmq_server has to be established).

The next step would be to avoid assers in the case when zmq_server is down or 
can not be reached (more work is needed but is doable).

Anyway now is the time to shout if somebody has problem with specific asserts.
Some kind of contest for most annoying assert in zmq code:)
