Hi all,

Here are some results from running throughput tests on old boxes (on
single box via loopback interface, messages 1kB long):

3.0GHz P4 no hyperthreading (1 logical CPU): 200,000 msgs/sec
3.0GHz P4 with hyperthreading (2 logical CPUs): 200,000 msgs/sec
2.8Ghz Pentium D 820 (dual core): 200,000 msgs/sec
2.4GHz P4 Northwood with 512k no hyperthreading (1 logical CPU): 60,000
msg/sec
1.4GHz Celeron M (single core): 35,000 msgs/sec
266MHz Pentium II (2 physical CPUs): 11,000 msgs/sec

Thus the throughput looks more or less like a function of CPU power -
the better CPU the better the throughput.

Thanks to Holger and Martin Lucina for helping with the test!

Martin
